I believe there is something oddly satisfying about doing something that is both exciting and slightly terrifying. I call it the roller-coaster effect. Street Photography is that for me. When I am out there, clicking pictures with my camera of random things on the streets. There’s always the chance that someone will come up to me and ask what I was doing, or why.
Back in 2019, I was just finishing up the 8th semester of college. During that time, I was offered an internship program in Pune, India. I came here with a few of friends from my batch. But most of them were the partying type and I, being the introvert, was often left behind.
That afternoon was one of those. I was so bored at my place that for a moment I thought I’d ask my roommates if they had any plans for the evening. But then I decided to walk around take some pictures around the area.
Soon enough, I was greeted with this sight. A sturdy looking man on a walk with his two adorable dogs. I gestured to him for permission, and he nodded. I had already decided that I would edit all images from this session in monochrome. Now that I look back on some of these pictures, I feel like I should have left the color in. Yet, if I am being honest, they look just as adorable in BnW, don’t you think?

I was on the lookout for anything interesting. Around the corner of a somewhat broken down shop, I found this guy. It might not seem like in the picture, but he was not actually looking around the corner, and was talking quite animatedly on the phone. Who know’s who is on the other side of the line.

Then there was this construction worker. He looked at me curiously when I pointed my camera at him. He didn’t say anything when I clicked the picture though. There’s a separate interesting story about this person. But that is for tomorrow. So, stay tuned.

There were quite a few more pictures from that evening, but I felt like posting just my favorites here. And among them is the one below. The idea was pretty simple. Keep the guy sitting one the motorbike in frame and let everything around move. But I didn’t have a tripod with me and I didn’t want to talk to him. So this was the best I could come up with.
